The ID checking guidelines for basic, standard and enhanced DBS checks are changing from Thursday 1st July 2021, due to new right to work rules in the UK. APCS have sent email correspondence to our customers to inform them of these changes.
What are the ID guidelines for DBS checks?
An applicant must provide proof of their identity when applying for a criminal record check. They will need to show their ID documents to their employer or organisation, even if they are a volunteer.
There are different Routes they can take to do so, and the requirements are different depending on the level of check the applicant is eligible for.
What are the changes to the DBS ID Checking Guidelines?
Here is a summary of the changes:
- removed reference to ‘EEA’ in the UK national route
- removed any differentiation between EU documents and documents from anywhere else outside of the UK
- added additional details for the primary documents for the international ID route check
- an updated link to the RTW guidance on gov.uk has been included
You can view the new ID guidelines in full in the links below:
Can I still use the old ID checking guidelines for DBS checks?
Yes, the old ID guidelines can still be used until 1st October 2021.
Are the COVID19 ID guidelines affected by the new DBS ID guidelines?
The temporary changes to the identity guidance for COVID19 are not affected, and employers and organisations can continue to use these. Please see the following link for guidance on how to ID verify COVID19 DBS checks here.
