Changes to Children’s Barred List Checks – April 2021

From 1st April 2021, the Teachers’ Pensions Online (TP Online) Service for barred list checks (List 99 checks) will be moved to the Department for Education (DfE).

The new DfE system is strictly limited to educational establishments who are responsible for checking the suitability of applicants seeking to engage in regulated activity. As schools, colleges and universities will now have the facility to check the barred list status, there is no need to involve a third party such as a recruitment agency, or a DBS umbrella body.

As umbrella bodies do not fall under this requirement, APCS unfortunately will not be able to access the new Department of Education system as of Thursday 1st April 2021. This means that we will no longer be able to provide the children’s barred list check result as a separate check to the enhanced DBS check.

How do I carry out a children’s barred list check?

If you are an educational establishment, you can contact the DfE regarding gaining access to the new service.

From now until 31st March 2021, you can still order your separate List 99 checks through us here. Please note that a children’s barred list check can still be obtained as part of an enhanced DBS check.

If you are not already registered with APCS to obtain enhanced DBS checks, register now.

As well as enhanced checks, APCS carry out a range of services to support recruitment of employees and volunteers. To find out more about how we can help your business or organisation, please see our main website here.
